As part of its future plan, the department of Legal studies intends to (within the next five years) obtain the following:
(a) National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Accreditation for the Diploma in Law programme
(b) Establish Kaduna Polytechnic Law Center, based in the department of Legal Studies
(c) Run short training courses and summer programmes in collaboration with other departments in areas like Human Rights, Development Studies, Environmental Law, Peace and Conflict Resolution.
(d) Organize public lectures in collaboration with the Bar and the Bench on current Legal issues.
ACHIEVEMENTS
(a) The unique syllabus for the Diploma in Law Programme contains all the Core Courses needed for the award of a Diploma in Law, in addition to these are courses like Environmental Law, Press Law, and Law of Banking.
(b) The Diploma in Law programme started within the same session the department was created and has a carefully designed and detailed programme outline.
OUTSTANDING FEATS
(a) A unique blend in the Theory and Practice of Law both among staff and students.
(b) Three quarters of the academic staff are practising lawyers with chambers while others are actively engaged in promoting human rights and social justice.
(c) A good proportion of the students are drawn from the Judiciary, the Nigerian Police, Immigration Service and the Armed Forces.
PARTNERSHIP
The department visited and interacted with the Bar, the Bench, and the Police in Kaduna State with a view to exploring areas of collaboration with these important agencies. As a result of this, members of the Bar are currently being sourced as guest lecturers.
