Kaduna Polytechnic is a tertiary institution whose paramount function among others is to teach various academic subjects and disciplines but concentration is more on technical knowledge, skills and technical creativity of the knowledge of subjects taught and the skillful conversion of such into technical materials for production and human use.

Kaduna Polytechnic in its teachings and dissemination of programmes accords priority to available resources existing within regional catchment areas and local communities - their technical applications to the needs and aspirations of the people and communities. Thus in Kaduna Polytechnic significance is attached to an integration of knowledge into technical tools, and the application of such tools into production processes.

The Department of Estate Management, Kaduna Polytechnic is the oldest of its kind in the Northern part of Nigeria and one of the oldest in the Federation alongside Yaba, Auchi, Calabar and Ibadan. The Estate department is embodied in the College of Environmental Studies, while the department on its accredited status runs and disseminates various graded academic and technical certificate subjects and progrmmes - all to gear up admitted students and persons into the full knowledge of all aspects of land matters and technics, land resources and use, land appraisals, land administration, land management and formulation and administration of land policies. The challenges in the acquisition of the above mentioned subjects boils down to the full knowledge and technical skills on matters of land property - the resources and technical creation of such resources and use, application and integration of these resources to meet the needs of man and society and further the economics, management and administration of land, land resources and sustainability of these resources and their integration to the immediate needs of man and his communities.

The department prides itself with the teaching of all subjects relating to land, landed property and estate management. Apart from training students to acquire both ND and HND, the department has the future goal of running a professional Post-HND and Masters (Technical) Degrees programme in Estate Managment.

So far, the department has successfully trained many sets of personnel that manage and administer lands in both public and private sectors in Nigeria. Many successful students, seeds of the department, man several estate, land and housing institutions across the country including such big bodies like: the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), National Ports Authority (NPA), Ajaokuta Steel complex.

The department has (through workshops and seminars) trained Assistant Estate Officers, medium cadre of Land Officers of the Northern states of Nigeria, Property Managers and Local Government Personnel in the knowledge and practical skills of generating finance from land resources, and properties. The department intends to build-up a proposal to the State Houses of Assembly on the modus-operandi of generating funds from land developments.

It is similarly important to note that the Kaduna Polytechnic Estate Department is talented with stock of Nigeria Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) registered professionals in all fields of Land Studies - Valuations, Appraisals, Land Financing and Development and Estate Management. The bulk of its teaching staff are national and accredited Registered Estate Surveyors and Valuers. Most of its graduated students are now registered corporate members of Nigeria Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers. It is a pride to the department to see its ex-students being self employed professionals and earning their living from rendering services in their respective communities. Over 80% of its present teaching staff have been trained by the department.
