Department of Civil Engineering

The department was established in 1968 with a staff strength of 4 academic staff and student population of 79. Currently, the academic staff strength and student population stands at 34 and 450 respectively; giving a staff-student ratio 1:14. The Technical and Administrative staff strength is currently 28.

A good number of graduands from the department are leading managers in multi-national organisations, national construction and oil companies, Federal and State Ministries of Works and Housing and the Federal Capital Development Authority in Abuja, Nigeria. A lot of them in the academics are equally doing well.

The department is proud to have fabricated a mechanical compacting machine for consolidation and compaction tests.

The department has been involved in the physical development of the Polytechnic community through project conception, design and supervision. Similar services have been offered to a number of organisations outside the Polytechnic.

Workshop : The department has the following functional workshops;
1. Carpentry/Woodwork;
2. Plumbing and Welding
3. Building/Block Laying

Laboratories : These are:
1. Soil mechanic/Geology;
2. Transportation
3. Water and Waste water Analysis
4. Structure/Materials
5. Land Surveying

Studio : The department has one drawing studio.
