The department is currently involved in educating and training students with a view to providing high and middle level manpower for the procesing industries, government ministries, the financial sector, and other sectors of the Nigerian, African and world economies.

Judging from the manpower and facilities on the ground, the department will have little problems in its rise to the level of research and development as well offering degree programmes in chemical engineering. Already training of manpower on the ground is being carried out by way of acquisition of higher degrees by the academic staff.

Among other things, the department intends to set up a centre of excellence on Process Modelling, Design and simulation laboratory with modern process engineering softwares. The centre is expected to address the present problem in Nigeria regarding dearth of information on process equipment design and simulation. It is hoped that this will further catalyse local design of equipment for the nation's process industry.

Furthermore, the department has its own laboratory, adequate and qualified teaching staff, harmony, good rapport and understanding of the vision among staff and students.
The department has produced a lot of well trained graduates that currently man most of the process industries in and around Kaduna state, Nigeria.
