Department of Architecture

The department of Architecture was formally established at the beginning of the 1981/82 academic session. Its nucleus was nurtured in the present Department of Building of the School of Environmental Design and it offers courses leading to the award of National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Architecture as well as Intermediate and Advanced Certificates in Architectural Draughtmanship.

 



 

Major achievements of the department lie in the number of students that graduated from the department and their individual ability to demonstrate knowledge acquired. Furthermore, the department has highly qualified academic staff who are an asset in the training of high calibre young architects for Nigeria and beyond.

BREAKTHROUGHS
Breakthroughs recorded in the department in the area of research were numerous both in finding design solutions for institutional, residential, commercial, religious reqiurements as well as in shaping the environment we live in through architectural designs and supervision of construction.
The members of staff in the department have contributed a lot in the areas of design and supervision of various building projects carried out by the institution (e.g. Administrative Block - College of Environmental Studies, Lecture Theatre, Kaduna Polytechnic Convocation Square, etc).

Currently, the department has a total of 455 students that enrolled in the various programmes offered by the department, while plans are being initiated to expand its programmes by offering Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture.
